In short, our center researches lighting and visibility of roadway infrastructure. But we do so much more. Almost anything that falls under transportation infrastructure is in our domain of research, and we've had some pretty cool projects over the years that looked at how we can improve transportation infrastructure while raising the bar for safety.
I develop hardware and software for data collection and data reduction (mostly roadway and tunnel lighting data). I focus on code re-use, fast development and reliability of deployed systems. I also document the development process and write documents to help other use what I've made.
One of my more ambitious projects is a personal light dosimetery device which measures the amount of light a participant is exposed to. Besides developing the electronics, cables and firmware, I also modeled and 3d printed cases and developed tools for importing, viewing and analyzing the data.
Some of my other work includes participant survey applications, data reduction tools, and calibration of our handheld light meters.
July 2017 to Present
edges was a little service at a remote campus started by the Blacksburg United Methodist Church. In only a few short years, that service grew to fill the capacity of our space, and then later to fill our capacity twice over with two services.
In 2016, we took our first steps towards producing a livestream for our Sunday worships. Over the years we have learned many lessons about mixing, camera placement, color correction, graphical overlays, lighting for our space and more. Starting in July of 2017, I began as the dedicated livestream producer, and continued to manage all aspects of the livestream for almost two years before we started to bring in other producers.
Because of limitations with our space, we setup a majority of the system each week, and packed up before we left. Because of this we developed systems to help ensure the system functioned properly, and that we produced the highest quality possible.

Paramount Building Products was a small company started in Daleville, Virginia. It served as a supplier of building products, such as windows, tiles, roofing, siding, railings and much more.
I developed the companies website when it first started and continued to maintain it for the remainder of it's operation. I also provided support for the office network, printers and computers.
